Empowering communities, protecting ecosystems, and driving sustainable solutions to combat climate change and its impacts across Somalia.
Sustainable Resilience and Climate Action Network (SRCAN) is a non-profit organization tackling Somalia’s pressing environmental challenges. Established in 2016, SRCAN operates in regions such as Banadir, Hirshabelle, Southwest State, Jubaland, and Galmudug to advance climate resilience and sustainable development. Marginalized groups, including pastoralists, women, and youth, are empowered to transform vulnerabilities caused by droughts, floods, and desertification into opportunities for meaningful change.
Efforts focus on disaster risk reduction, climate-smart agriculture, water resource management, and ecosystem restoration. Community-driven approaches ensure initiatives remain relevant and effective in addressing local needs. Projects such as reforestation and innovative water systems align with Somalia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), the Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), driving measurable and sustainable results.
Partnerships strengthen SRCAN’s capacity to create impact. Collaboration with UN agencies, private sector entities, and local NGOs enhances resources, expertise, and advocacy for climate policy reforms. Together, efforts aim to build a Somalia where people and ecosystems flourish in harmony, paving the way for resilience and shared prosperity.
We lead initiatives addressing the environmental and climate challenges Somali communities face. Our work focuses on disaster risk reduction, climate-smart agriculture, water resource management, ecosystem restoration, and climate adaptation. Through community-driven, inclusive approaches, we empower vulnerable groups, enhance local capacities, and foster resilience to climate shocks. Guided by national and global frameworks, our programs aim to create sustainable livelihoods while promoting harmony between people and the environment.
